The Trump administration rolled back critical protections for oceans, including opening new areas for offshore oil drilling and weakening safeguards for marine sanctuaries. Despite the political climate, ocean conservation is one of the few bipartisan issues among Americans, which has helped minimize the damage that Trump has been able to do in the past. However, his new policies will threaten marine biodiversity, coastal economies, and efforts to combat climate change, especially with weakened pollution controls.
