Blue Water Initiative is a south Florida based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to the conservation of the world’s oceans and the rehabilitation of damaged reef ecosystems through community awareness, research, education and active restoration.

Blue Water Initiative’s (BWI) mission is to help address Marine Debris issues in South Florida, focusing on the negative ecological impacts caused by Osborne Reef, a failed artificial reef comprised of over a million automobile tires created in the 1970’s. BWi’s Rogue Tire Removal Program is aimed at the tires that stray from from the main debris field due to storms, currents, tides, etc. BWI also works to professionally relocate rare corals found in the tires, and help the regional initiatives to help reduce populations of non-native invasive Lion Fish.
