The World Ocean Observatory is an Internet-based place of exchange of information and educational services about the ocean defined as “an integrated, global, social system,” thereby transcending conventional emphasis on species, habitat, and national limits to relate the ocean to fresh water, climate, food, energy, health, trade, transportation, international finance, policy, governance, science, technology, coastal development, and cultural traditions. W2O provides links to ocean organizations, research organizations, educational resources about ocean issues and also provide pro-active services in the form of a digested news service, monthly letter, syndicated radio, on-line events, and subscription services for aquariums and maritime museums, environmental organizations, schools and colleges, and individuals around the world committed to the sustainable ocean.
