The day before President Obama rejected the terrible idea of pumping oil tar sands through the Keystone Pipeline he signed into law a bill to protect our ocean from illegal, unregulated and unreported (pirate) fishing.

Blue Frontier is particularly thrilled not only because it’s the right thing for our ocean (as is getting off of fossil fuels of course) but because we helped make it happen.

This May we held the largest citizen lobby for Ocean Conservation in history.  Our delegates from 24 states met with 9 Senators, 25 House members and 120 congressional staffers to support a bipartisan bill aimed at ending unregulated and pirate fishing in the world’s ocean.  Many we met with were not aware of the bill till we explained why their constituents cared.  Two months later the House passed the bill and the Senate followed.  yesterday the President signed it into law.  Score one for the fish (and honest fishermen and women) and one today for climate sanity.  Two down and one to go – stopping plans for new offshore drilling in the Arctic (temporarily on hold) and along our Atlantic Coastline – Stop offshore Drilling!  #seaparty2016
